Early Years and Bondshotel Status
In the 19th century, the story of Hotel De Kroon began with its founding by Mr. Wiertz. As early as 1900, the hotel earned the prestigious title of Bondshotel, a quality mark that set strict standards, such as sanitary facilities in every room and provisions for personal hygiene.

War and Reconstruction
World War II left deep scars. The hotel was heavily damaged by bombings and battles in the region. Yet the resilience of the community remained unbroken. In 1949, after a thorough reconstruction, Hotel De Kroon reopened its doors. The post-war atmosphere can still be felt in the café.

Family Management and Growth
After the war, the hotel came into the hands of the Jetten family, who developed it further into a meaningful meeting place. In 1968, Piet and Annie van Arensbergen took over the management and transformed the hotel into a vibrant hub of activity, with a banquet hall, the nightclub De Kromme Elleboog, and a reputation for culinary dinners. From 1981 to 1984, the Weiss family operated the hotel, after which it was taken over by Toon and Marian von der Haar, daughter of Piet and Annie. They modernized the hotel while preserving its historic charm. Marian and Toon remained actively involved when their daughter Dorine took over management in 2004. Despite changes, such as the closing of the banquet hall in 2005, the café remained a lively spot for parties, clubs, and the annual carnival.

The Current Generation
In 2019, the hotel was passed on to Nena and Britt van Arensbergen, nieces of Marian and Dorine von der Haar. With respect for its rich history, they are working toward a future in which Villa-Hotel De Kroon remains both modern and authentic.

A Living Legacy
Hotel De Kroon not only reflects the history of Gennep, but continues to be a warm and beloved place for both the community and its visitors. With a blend of tradition and renewal, the hotel stands as a beacon of hospitality in the heart of the city.
